I don’t like ads.
Neither does the target audience.
I put up ad blockers in all my browsers. I don’t follow Cannes Lions nor advertising magazines.
Here are a few reasons why.
1. I don’t want to cloud my mind with other ads.
2. They interrupt my YouTube cat videos.
3. It keeps me grounded.
But I wasn’t always like this. I used to devour ads. Until...I made a career switch to writing scripts for soap dramas.
Then I started to see things differently. I realised that what matters more, perhaps the only thing that matters, is to connect with the characters to connect with the viewers. And some of these characters are completely cray cray – I mean, it took me some time to figure out how to connect with a vengeful long lost daughter swapped at birth.
My point is, when I conceptualise now, I always seek to have real genuine connection with the audience. That means writing with feelings, no gimmicks no bullshit – unless it’s intentional and has purpose.
If that sounds like your cup of tea, then let’s have a chat.
