"Okay guys. We have 13 dinosaur animatronics and 13,000 square metres of space. Do something nice that will bring in money."
Our creative senses were tingling so the art director and I immediately put on our Indiana Jones hats and came up with the most dangerous exhibition we could think of for the kids. Think earthquakes, lava crossing field, ziplining, hungry angry T-rex and pterodactyl running and flying about, no parents allowed, and the kids must finish the course within 10 minutes or they'll die.
But safety first. So we took out the dangerous elements and it became this – Dinoscovery.
So what's Dinoscovery?
Dinoscovery is an interactive and educational dinosaur exhibit for kids located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It can be described as a treasure hunt on steroid. And dinosaurs.
For this project, we started from scratch.
The Visitor Experience
Kids, or Junior Paleontologists, sit through a short briefing when suddenly a time portal opens for them to go back millions of years and into the Mesozoic Era. Their mission: to collect dinosaur samples through their RFID wristbands to bring back to the lab, and they must do it before the time warp closes. The kids will get up close to the dinosaurs in their quest, crossing lava fields and climbing a steep vertical wall. Once they've "returned to the present day" they'll hand over their findings to the guides who will reward them with their certificate of completion.
When the time portal opens, the kids will take their map and navigate their way around to find the dinosaur samples.
The dinosaur fossils are hidden throughout the exhibit. When the kids are near one, their RFID will beep to prompt them to look for the fossil. Once found, the kids will tap their RFID at the computer nearby to record their progress.
A few of the activities/games
A strap-on ankylosaurus tail that kids can put on to whack the t-rex on the punching bag.
Interactive race with the fastest dinosaur.
Upon their return to the "present day", kids can look for dinosaur bones in the sand pit.
